Earlier today I promised a blog and here it is. It is really 3 blogs in one. I came across some things that I thought were worth your attention. I hope everyone has the time to check these links out!
1) This one comes courtesy of a conversation I had last night with Cara. We were talking about Chap Stick and how one brand is better than another based on the chemicals and stuff that is in them. She told me that Burt’s Bee (Burt Bee’s? Whatever) is all natural and that other chap stick has chemicals that eat away a layer of skin to force you to keep using it. As incredulous as it sounds apparently even Carmex supposedly puts ground up fiber glass in their balm to cut your lips and keep them chapped. Of course I didn’t believe a word of it and with the help of good old Snopes, quickly put the rumor to rest. But I think that there is something to Chapstick that is unsettling. Of course I don’t think it is addicting or purposely chaps your lips to keep you coming back for more, but using it often does chap your lips and I can tell you that I too am a victim. I try to quit, but can’t…
2) The next story comes from someone at work who today asked me if I had Progressive Insurance. Now let me know if anyone has heard of this. Apparently they have a new program called MyRate. Basically it is a little device that plugs into your car and monitors how you drive. Sounds more like Big Brother Insurance to me. It claims that slower and safer drivers, even drivers that drive in alleged “safe times” (i.e. not after dark or rush hour) can actually get a discount on their rates when this little machine tells the insurance company all these details about their driving habits. I mean really? If you drive too fast or start and stop abruptly Progressive says there is a chance it could even use the info to RAISE your rates up to 9%. It all seems weird to me. But check it out for yourself if you don’t believe me! Progressive.com.
3) I am in love with fruit leather. I forgot just how much I liked it until I told the guy at work that buys our snacks that I wanted him to get some! For those of you outside of the circle, fruit leather is basically an all natural fruit roll-up. It is twice as tasty and only 45 calories! The best part is that there are no additives, just fruit concentrate and natural sugars. It is awesome. You can get it at Costco and probably heath food stores, but it doesn’t taste like crappy health food, it is awesome! Check out: Stretch Island Fruit Co.
That is all!
