The Holiday Bullet Points

The holidays are certainly different for me this year. Here are a few observations to give you something to pass the time until you have to go back to work!

  • I went to midnight mass at my childhood church (St. Mark’s Parish). I don’t remember Catholic church being so much work! Stand up, Sit down, Kneel, Chant, Sing. Man I was worn out and didn’t get out until 1:15am. One of the things I noticed was that the choir/orchestra had this very animated conductor or as I like to refer to him, a maestro. I never really thought the conductor really did anything. Cara says that he establishes the rhythm for the band, but I watched this guy for a good long time and I am not even really sure he was keeping rhythm with himself!
  • Christmas morning was the first time I experienced christmas without Omi. My brother Dylan was also not there, so it was a bit strange. My mom and Aunt tried their best to make all the same treats that my Omi used to, so I still brought home some fudge and banana bread. That was nice of them.
  • Thursday night I made my way to Cara’s Aunt’s for a little holiday cheer. This was also something new for me, I have never shared a christmas with a significant other’s family. I was there for all of 20 minutes and I found myself driving Cara to the emergency room. She was complaining of extreme pain in her side and back. We did want to chance it so we headed up to the hospital. This was also a new and interesting (if not disturbing) experience. It was sort of the other side of the holidays that you don’t think about as you are sipping your hot chocolate and opening gifts. There were more than one knife wound from package opening gone awry. There was a chest pain, a seizure and a vomiting man while we waited to be seen. It really made me appreciate my health and I think Cara felt the same way. Especially when the doctor told her that she would be fine and needed some antibiotics. We were relieved and made our way back home after the 3 and a half hour ordeal.
