Will the Sports Ever End?

hockey

You know I was never a big sports kid growing up. My father and I would watch the Superbowl, but outside of that I really had no interest. I would go to the occasional Royals game, I gave Sting a high five at a WCW wrestling match as a kid and I have a distinct memory of my Dad taking me to Hooters when I was like 10 to watch a Chiefs game. I loved the boobies and hated the wings. This still holds true today! But other than that sports and I were distant cousins. It wasn’t until college that things started to change. I followed St. Louis Blues hockey quite a bit and found a new love for tennis. My room mate at the time, Marty, was a sports nut. He really helped me by constantly having some kind of sporting event on the TV in our dorm room.

These days coming fresh off the Royals season ticket package I find myself more immersed in sports than ever, so when Marty called me up with last minute tickets to the St. Louis Blues vs. the Los Angeles Kings playing the first NHL exhibition game ever at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, who was I pass it up? I have long positioned myself as a hockey fan, following the St. Louis Blues in their playoff years through college, so I was perfectly equipped to throw on a Blues t-shirt and bust out to the game. 2.5 hrs, a Blues loss and a ‘KC Dog’ (a 1/2 lb. dog with BBQ brisket on top!) later, I was still very happy that I got to attend. I am renewing my hockey roots this season and I can’t wait!

Ok I promise no more sports posts until March. unless the Blues make it to the Playoffs….
