Step on a crack and break…

Following my last post of memories from my childhood, I was thinking about that old rhyme about breaking your mom’s back if you stepped on a crack. Now I am not really sure where that originated nor do I want to google it, but I do know that at the heart of it is loyalty.

You make a conscious effort to avoid cracks in the sidewalk and in the process you spare your mother a life of pain and agony. Easy enough right? well maybe it isn’t so clear cut.

I am not suggesting that I want to do any harm to my mother first off. I am going to take a broader approach to this and include friends and loved ones of all kinds. Now we all know that one occasion or another someone you care about crosses you. They may not even do it intentionally, but what’s done is done.

As a result of the indiscretion you are left feeling betrayed and hurt. So what do you do? I guess if it were some bizarro world you would probably run outside and start stomping up and down on cracks without recourse. Maybe you wouldn’t. All I am saying is that sometimes we do or say the wrong thing and we should expect that protect and loyalty to waiver, it happens. Let’s all try to be more careful and no one will break their backs…
