Ok ok, so I know that isn’t the most clever title ever, but St. Patrick’s Day is one of the few days of the year that I am actually concerned about what I wear. I am not sure where the tradition of wearing green began (EDIT: Irish folklore holds that green is the favorite color of the Good People, the proper name for faeries…I guess), but I do know that I love wearing the color.
I don’t really spend too much time worrying about what I am going to wear as much as where I am going to find a pint of Guinness to drink on that day, but I do have a few choice articles of clothing that will get me through the day. I love being Irish and I love having a holiday that really doesn’t mean much of anything that allows me to feel on top of the world.
I vote that other countries have holidays. I mean I suppose that the Germans get OctoberFest and the Cajuns get Mardi Gras. The Italians don’t get their own day, nor do the French. The English could brag about Guy Fawkes day, but it is largely overlooked. There are no parades for being Chinese or Australian. I think I should count my lucky stars that the American people let me spend a day drinking for the good of the land! Slainté! Or something…
