Yes Man

I didn’t have too high of expectations for the Film Yes Man, starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel. It was touted as Liar Liar 2 when it first came into my radar. But the fact that Zooey was in it gave us a reason to RedBox is this weekend.

The movie starts with Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey. He is rude and tells everyone NO. Of course this sets up the film for redemption later.  His friends hate him and that guy Bradley Cooper is in it. This guy is like a fratty-looking  actor, but he has showed up in a ton of movies lately, I guess whatever he is doing it working.  Also on the scene is Danny Masterson of That 70’s Show. His part is lame and anyone could have done it, but he does sport a pretty gross mustache that few could pull off…

So long story short, the film slowly morphs from what could very easily be a terrible Wayans brother movie, into this sort of hip kitchy love story between an uptight guy trying to open up to a wide open hipster. Zooey Deschanel plays a crazy girl who teaches a photography jogging class. She is in a sweet 80s band and is just fun and zany. She is a nice complement to Jim Carrey’s character.

What I liked most about the movie was the writing. The banter between Carrey and Deschanel is priceless. Even though it was scripted the flirting seemed real and hilarious. Check out this film, you will be pleasantly surprised. Add a soundtrack by The Eels and a few tracks from the Imaginary Band that Zooey Deschanel is in (and does the vocals for in the film) just makes it a fun little film.
