Top 5 of 2011!
Welcome to my Top 5 albums of the year. I loved listening to music this year. I got married and did all sorts of life changing things this year and music led the way. I hope you enjoy these albums for yourself. I have included sample tracks too! Enjoy!
5) Eddie Vedder - Ukulele Songs
Eddie Vedder is soulful and his solo album devoted to the tiny ukulele delivers big. A collection of...

The use and misuse of Twitter?
Lately I have been following this girl on twitter. She works in PR and by all accounts spends most of her day blogging on various sites and of course immersing herself in social media.
What I find most interesting in observing her twitter feed, as well as spending a little time researching social media as it relates to business for a project at work, is her mix of personality and feelings with...
Banter and the Couple's Glossary
So after spending three plus years with Cara, I have noticed that we have developed our own language over time. Certain ways to describe stuff that we don’t seem to use anywhere else, but that we fully understand none the less. The following are a few examples.
BoopBoop - This is a term that means you need to fast forward through the commercials when we are watching something on our DVR....

This is amazing, who wants to do this?
Application
The world around me is moving so fast. Mobile devices are making virtually all information instantly available at the touch of a button. An idea released into the world can reach the masses in seconds.
Unfortunately this makes it increasingly harder to have an original idea, one that isn’t pounced upon and driven to completion by someone with more motivation and more means. Maybe they...

Spring Training
Traditionally I am not a baseball blogger. I follow several of them online and with twitter, but I tend to leave the analysis to them! That being said, I do want to make a few points in an effort to get through to the casual fan. Today Spring Training starts, it is the first day for pitchers and catchers to report, so I think today is a good day to devote a blog to the team.
I have been...

Beer
When I was in High School, I didn’t drink. Save the occasional sampling at a family party or late at night with friends, I didn’t have the stomach for alcohol. Even when I made it to college, drinking wasn’t a part of my everyday life. It wasn’t until I was about 20 that I started drinking on a semi-regular basis.
I started with beer; it is universal and accessible when in college. I did not care...

Holiday Letter
2010
In the recent weeks, Cara and I have been receiving a lot of Christmas cards from all sorts of awesome and caring friends. One family in particular, The Zinkiewicz family, likes to send along a little “year in review” letter. Now the parent’s of my friend have been sending one out for years, but since their sons are now married and having kids, they have both joined in on the fun as well. I...

My Top 5 Albums of 2010
It is that time of year again, time for my selections for the top albums of the year. I felt like I acquired a load more albums than I usually do and in a way it was a repeat of 2008 as we saw releases from Kanye West, Delta Spirit, Vampire Weekend, all of which cracked my top 5 that year. The following are my darlings of 2010, as always in no discernible order:
1) Delta Spirit - History From...

Clean H2O is a Mo-Fo
Blog Action Day is an annual event held every October 15 that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day with the aim of sparking a global discussion and driving collective action. The topic for October 15, 2010 is WATER. What does it mean to you to have clean water?
Water is one of those things that gets taken for granted in modern western society. I know I am...
I was looking in the wrong place
As news spreads of the Chilean Miners finally getting out of the ground after almost 2 months cooped up with only their Lord of the Flies sensibilities and no sunlight, I can’t help but wonder what I would do with 2 months of solitude. What would I be able to accomplish with 2 months without a job or mundane everyday tasks like laundry or mowing the lawn?
Let’s jump through a few...
Picken'
So I am in love with Reality TV. It is great background while I am doing things around the house. I especially love marathons. Well now that NEtflix streaming exists and networks like the history channel aren’t afraid to put shows on DVD/Streaming, I can find plenty of ways to make my TV play shows like American Pickers all evening long!
I love this show, these guys are tenacious and...

One Sketch a Day
About a month ago, Ryan told me about this journal that he got for his birthday. It was not your ordinary written journal, it was a sketch book. The rules are simple, you sketch whatever you want in the half page allotted for that particular day. The journal last for exactly one year.
As he explained it to me, I knew I had to get one. So I jumped on the net and ordered one straight away.
So...

Why
In my latest installment of “WHY?!” I ask, what do the thousands of concert goers across the country do with the crappy cell phone photos and videos they are taking at concerts?
Cara and I attended a She & Him concert last night and while I should be reflecting on the rare talent that is Zooey Daschanel, I can’t get camera phones out of my mind. I must have seen every...
PitchMan
I had some extra time on my hands this weekend and I used it to spend an incredibly wasteful amount of time in front of the television. If it weren’t for a brilliant idea such as Netflix streaming, I may never have been able to watch all 12 episodes of Pitchmen in just two days. As sad as that might seem on the surface, it was sort of inspiring.
When I was a kid I used to make little...
Compete, or don't
I am the least non-competitive person I know. So non-competitive I think I win the award for non-competitiveness (I have to win something right! ha)
But really anytime a situation comes up, mainly situations that deal with me playing sports, I just fade into this emotionless void of self doubt. I don’t go the extra mile, I forget the score, I do everything in my power to avoid winning or...

One Step Closer
Today after work I came one step closer to doing the one thing in my life that I never thought I would do. As far back as I can remember I would wet my lips at the thought of going through with it, space off in class wondering what it would be like. Is it hard? Is it easy? Will I end up in the hospital at some point as a result?
So for me, as I pulled into the parking lot with a light drizzle...

Sticking it to the man!
So every Monday, Wednesday and Friday I go to Panera Bread to get breakfast with Adam. Well I tend to almost get the same thing every day. I always get a medium iced tea and either a pumpkin muffin top (muffie to Panera lovers) or a cinnamon crunch bagel. When I get the bagel, my total is $3.19. Well a few days ago I went and ordered my usual and when the cashier handed me my change, I noticed...

It's Science!
This past week I came into possession of some rare earth magnets, they have been packaged and marketed to the public as “Buckyballs” and considered a toy. Stupid name aside, these things are awesome. I have been geeking out all week as I sit at home watching TV. True, Cara stares at me blankly every time I hold up another magical magnetic design, but I love them. I highly suggest...

BBQ
For my birthday this year, Cara was kind enough to get me a gas grill for the deck. I have never had one of my own, so it is going to be an exciting summer! I am going to finally go get a propane tank tonight and it will be a steakfest at my house this weekend!
We don’t eat a lot of red meat anymore, but rest assured we will be suckling on a juicy steak, grilled at my hands. I love...

My Hat
Even though the Royals have continuously let me down, my navy blue Royals hat never has. This hat has been all over with me. I bought it shortly after I got back from california to replace my LA Dodgers hat (which I had bought to try to look more like a local in L.A.).
Since my hat has been on many journeys. So many in fact that I can’t list them all here. But I do have some special...
Basketball
As a kid I was never quite that athletic. I know, I know it is shocking! One of the worst things for me to do was to play basketball. I was particularly awful at shooting hoops. Maybe it was my left handedness, maybe it was my lack of interest in the sport, but for whatever reason, it was and is always a struggle to play the sport.
Well fast forward to today and I still don’t really like...

The iPad and the Future of Me
Being a new home owner, I have just now realized that I can’t call the Super (Joe Pesci anyone?) whenever something breaks. Last night the garage door when a little haywire and the wire came off on one side. It was crazy and I started to imagine my checking account draining. Luckily it was an easy fix and I can do it myself. It is scary to think of all the potential things that could go...
Well Crap
iancahill.com has laid dormant for far too long. I realized it this morning when my hosting and domain provider emailed my yearly renewal. I have been a very sorry internet junky. I am on the interwebs all day and I have avoided my blog for far too long. Probably one of the main reasons I have avoided it is because I didn’t want to have to write a post like this. Sorry I have been gone, it...

The Next Part
Breathing was becoming more and more of an issue for me. My whole body was taking on the form of a helium balloon defused of its power and skimming dangerously closer to the floor. My neck was rubbery and would bounce from side to side before resting casually on the collar of my shirt for a moment. It didn’t feel exactly like a heart attack, maybe closer to a heart denied of use.
My next move...

Music
I have always been a big fan of music. It is a constant comfort in life and couples nicely with virtually any mood I am in. In the last, oh say 10 years, music has been synonymous with, ipod. Pretty much since I have moved into corporate america, I have found myself sitting in a cubicle or some semblance of one and my only savior are my headphones. Not that music is God or anything, but it can...

Owning
So I moved in with my girlfriend. Panic attacks and anxiety aside, so far it has been a very good experience. We cook more at home, we clean, we spend quality time together. I actually enjoy it a lot more than I thought I would!
The one thing that is weird though is trying to figure out what I now own. I mean, that spatula may not really be mine, but I use it all the time. And I am pretty sure if...
